Assessors’ Databases:

See Municipal Quick Links for a list of links to online assessor websites, assessing databases, tax maps and GIS tax maps for Belknap, Carroll, Strafford, Rockingham and York Counties.

For other counties, find with a search engine using the town name and state and the word "assessing." Choose the town’s official site for free information.

Official Government Maps:

New Hampshire Data Maps: Under Online Map Services, choose the NH GRANIT Data Mapper, select your themes of interest and then go to utilities to select your town.

Maine Data Maps: and Maine Geolibrary Geoportal offer and link to an amazing array of online maps.

Historic Maps:

NH Hurd Atlas: Historic atlas labels residences with inhabitants’ names circa 1892. To zoom and navigate atlas images, link from this site to LizardTech for free download of MrSid Viewer.

White Mountain History: Thirty historic New Hampshire maps.

Library of Congress Map Collection: Extensive site includes antique panoramic bird’s eye view maps of local towns. Download images for full-screen view.

David Rumsey Map Collection: Extensive historical map collection. Use this site’s on-screen tools to zoom and navigate.

Satellite Views: Google Earth, Bing Maps and ArcGIS Explorer all have features worth exploring, such as fly over tours, maps and searches for local amenities.

Deed Plotters: Tract Plotter and Deed Platter are free sites that allow you to generate a plot outline from a metes and bounds legal description.

Tools for Homebuyers:

U.S Department of Housing guide explains the process of buying and/or financing a home and helps you to explore your best options.

Federal law entitles you to a free copy of your credit report every twelve months from each of the three major credit reporting companies. Free Credit Report is their official site and is FREE. Be sure to correct any outdated or inaccurate information on your report.

NNEREN and Zillow allow you to search the MLS for real estate listings, find mortgage rates, view sales stats and more.

Mortgage Calculator Plus provides calculators, helpful explanations and resources to assist homebuyers.

Home Closing 101 is a handy guide explaining the home closing process, terminology, forms, etc.

U.S. Dept. of Education lets you search for schools, colleges and libraries, with statistics and resources. Search for any public or private school and any public library nationwide to get demographic information such as school size and teacher/student ratio.

NH Dept. of Education provides local statistics and resources. The NH Schools button on the site leads you to pages helpful to parents.

Maine Dept. of Education has fantastic depth and links to many resources. The more you explore, the more you’ll find.

School-by-school summary reports of the federally mandated achievement tests are available on the New Hampshire and on the Maine Department of Education sites. Compare the scores between schools to see which school’s students perform better on the tests. Use the hard statistical data found here in conjunction with soft data such as your impressions from school visits, the reputation of the school and the recommendations of other parents.

Also useful are the web sites maintained by individual schools and school districts. The easiest route to those may be through your search engine.

NH Almanac is compiled by the NH State Library, with information on NH demographics, statistics, government, history, flora and fauna and more.

Maine Facts is the official government site for everything you want to know about Maine.

See New Hampshire Department of Revenue Administration and Maine Department of Revenue Administration for frequently asked tax questions and answers.
